Jordan Morgan Scores Big Win to Put Nederland on the MMA Map

Nederland fighter Jordan “The Sniper” Morgan helped bolster the local mixed martial arts scene with  dominant win last weekend.  Morgan dominated fellow Texas fighter Gabriel Reynaga en route to a unanimous decision win earning a 30-26 score from one judge at the El Orgullo del Valle show in Pharr, Texas on March 16.
Morgan came out firing and dominated the first two rounds with his superior boxing and Muay Thai. Morgan put an exclamation point on round two when he staggered Reynaga with a high kick followed by a slam.  “That slam reminded me of an early Matt Hughes dominating his opponents in the UFC,” said Patrick Head, the head trainer at United MMA located in Nederland, Texas.
In the third round Morgan showcased his ground game by almost finishing the fight by heel hook.  “His opponent was saved by the bell,” Head said.
“I’m different than a lot of other fighters,” said Morgan, who began his mixed martial arts career with an 8-1 amateur record before turning pro.  “A lot of fighters push a thuggish persona, but I’m just a guy that works my butt off in the gym.”
“He’s a very hard worker and an excellent fighter.  Coaching Jordan can be like playing a video game because he listens so well,” Head said.  “We were confident for this fight that Jordan had a much better ground game than his opponent since he has been in our Brazilian jiu-jitsu program for several years.  The goal was to showcase his boxing for this fight. We put him in the hands of our boxing coach, Francisco Monroy, and the results speak for themselves.”
After this win, Morgan looks to be back in the cage as soon as possible.  “He walked away from this fight uninjured, so he’s ready to go,” Head said.  Possible future fights for Morgan could be in the Legacy Fighting Championship organization that promotes fights in the Houston area.
In the growing Texas mixed martial arts scene, Morgan gives most of the credit to his gym and its trainers.  “My trainers back me 100 percent.  In addition to regular classes, they stay after and put in extra time with me until I get the technique right.”
“It’s the little details that separate the good fighters from the great, and my coaches at United MMA are down in the trenches with me making sure I’ve got those details down,” Morgan said.
United MMA is one of several gyms in the area advertising mixed martial arts, but not all gyms are equal according to Patrick Head.  “Most gyms in our area advertise themselves as mixed martial arts schools, but when you look closely, they only specialize in one area.  United MMA has talented instructors in different disciplines who are passionate about teaching along with the best facilities between Houston and New Orleans.”
“If you want to learn mixed martial arts, come down to United MMA,” Head said.  “We’ve got two huge training rooms with matted floors, heavy bags and a boxing ring, and we offer a 30 day free trial with no strings attached.  If you walk in the door, you’ll want to be a part of our team.”
